The RP women’s national basketball team debuted in style in the 7th SEABA Women’s Championship, dealing Singapore a sound 101-34 beating Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The lady dribblers of coach Haydee Ong were unforgiving on defense. Using a stifling pressure defense, the Nationals forced the Singaporeans to commit 36 turnovers. (more…)

Singapore Indoor Stadium, Sunday, October 3, 2010 — The Singapore Slingers started their second ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) season on a brilliant note with a nail-biting 94-93 win over arch-rivals and last year’s runners-up Satria Muda at home.

Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 – Satria Muda BritAma (SMB) treated their loyal followers with a spectacular show, dwarfing the Singapore Slingers with a lot of dizzying defensive stops and accurate passing on their way to a 74-45 blowout.

The win evened up the best-of-three semi-final playoffs at 1-1.

The first two Satria Muda possessions can almost sum up the story for the night. With Satria Muda getting the first touch, Nakiea Miller unleashed a 3-point bomb 1m away from the 3-point line to start the rampage. In the first quarter, the Slingers were on a semi-zone defense with the Slingers’ Marcus Ng sticking his face all over Alex Hartman of Satria Muda. In their first scuffle very early in the quarter, Hartman bumped Ng who successfully sold it to the referees for an offensive foul, but after that it was guns blazing for Hartman as he made three consecutive baskets using Ng as the scope. Despite finishing with the best record after the elimination round, the Philippine Patriots can expect a tight and bruising encounter with the KL Dragons when their best-of-three semifinals begin this Sunday.

Coach Louie Alas believes that the Dragons, who won their last three games to edge out the Brunei Barracudas for the last playoff berth, have what it takes to challenge the favored Filipino cagers. (more…)

Sitting if front of my laptop and staring at the live streaming video of the Philippine Patriots versus Brunei Barracudas game yesterday 24/01/2010, I can’t help to wonder what my fellow Patriot fans in Manila are doing. A night before, we were joking around in our facebook group that they’ll create streamers and slogans carrying our war cry “NOT IN OUR HOUSE”. Indeed, so far, the Philippine Patriots remain unbeaten in all their home games.

So, here am I, lazily sitting and staring at the screen waiting for a short glimpse of the crowd during the game. I’m saying to myself – who knows I might see Rey Refran and company there. Damn, I hate being in Singapore during that final game before the play-offs. (more…)
