Friday, October 22, 2010, Petaling Jaya – Two unbeaten teams. One will stay perfect & another one will taste it 1st loss of the season.

A killer match awaits us this weekend. The Philippine Patriots, defending champions from last season go against the Chang Thailand Slammers, who were once at bottom of the table last season but have now awakened to become the dark horse for contenders of the title. Both teams remain unbeaten so far and only one will remain. Will the return of Chris Kuete, as he limped off the court after a bad clash with Morrison last week, help his team beat the Patriots or will the Patriots surge as powerhouse Anthony Johnson comes back to action? With the Patriots yet to lose a game, will they be able to secure a fourth straight win for Season 2?

We have 2 other matches on Saturday as well to keep your adrenaline pumping. The Westports KL Dragons are hoping for a revenge against the Singapore Slingers on their home court this weekend as they have lost their first 3 games with detrimental performances from their 1st pair of imports. Also, the Satria Muda BritAma vs. Brunei Barracudas game will be showed live on ESPN. We will keep you updated through Facebook and Twitter on game day!

After a quiet first half, Nakiea Miller came to life in the second half and carried Satria Muda Britama to a 86-76 victory over the Singapore Slingers at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and a passage through to the ABL finals against the top seeded Philippine Patriots.

With just 2 points to his name in the first half and perhaps troubled by an incident off the ball with the Slingers point guard Al Vergara, the American was a different player after the interval, torching the hosts for 20 points in that crucial second half finishing with yet another double-double in 22 points and 14 rebounds. The Philippine Patriots earned the first finals berth in the ASEAN Basketball League thanks to 6-foot-9 import Jason Dixon and its resilient defense.

The Louie Alas-coached Patriots came back from 16 points down to escape with a 70-65 decision and wrap up their short semifinals series against the Kuala Lumpur Dragons on Wednesday at the MABA Gym in Malaysia.

“We were very complacent in the first half. Luckily, we were able to talk to ourselves at halftime that we must keep our toughness on the defensive end and I guest that was the story of the game,” said Alas, who will have to wait between Singapore and Indonesia for their finals opponent after Satria Muda forced a deciding Game 3 with a 74-45 rout of the Slingers in their own semis series. After a remarkable comeback victory over the KL Dragons that enabled them to sweep the semifinal round of the ASEAN Basketball League, Philippine Patriots coach Louie Alas bared his thoughts on his team’s possible opponent in the best-of-five finals that starts next Friday.

Alas believes that both the Singapore Slingers and Jakarta-based Satria Muda BritAma are two contrasting teams that are capable of giving the Patriots a tough challenge in the championship round that will decide the league’s inaugural champion. (more…)

Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 – Satria Muda BritAma (SMB) treated their loyal followers with a spectacular show, dwarfing the Singapore Slingers with a lot of dizzying defensive stops and accurate passing on their way to a 74-45 blowout.

The win evened up the best-of-three semi-final playoffs at 1-1.

The first two Satria Muda possessions can almost sum up the story for the night. With Satria Muda getting the first touch, Nakiea Miller unleashed a 3-point bomb 1m away from the 3-point line to start the rampage. Then on the Slingers’ ensuing possession, Miller blocked Al Vergara’s lay-up to set the tone defensively.

In the first quarter, the Slingers were on a semi-zone defense with the Slingers’ Marcus Ng sticking his face all over Alex Hartman of Satria Muda. In their first scuffle very early in the quarter, Hartman bumped Ng who successfully sold it to the referees for an offensive foul, but after that it was guns blazing for Hartman as he made three consecutive baskets using Ng as the scope.
